If you've been in contact with a poison ivy plant, wash the affected areas immediately with soap and water. Most cases of the rash can be self-treated using products like calamine lotion, colloidal oatmeal baths or hydrocortisone cream. Cold compresses applied for 15 mins several times a day can help relieve itching and blistering. Antihistamines like Benadryl may be used but stick to the oral pills as the cream may cause more irritation. If severe, your doctor may prescribe oral prednisone.
